Dedicated to raising the standards of competency in horse training, Chris’ new-and-improved Train The Trainer curriculum for 2011 offers a versatile format where trainers in the program work with a variety of breeds, genders and temperaments – not just their own horses – to hone diagnostic, groundwork and equitation skills.

From competitor to coach, author to clinician, 30 years of bucking the system is paying off for Chris Irwin. By cracking the code of Equus, Chris’ evolutionary approach to horses and horsemanship is changing the very nature of horse-human relationships. Fluency in the language of horse and an uncanny ability to translate its efficacy to equine enthusiasts has earned Chris a highly-respected leadership position in the industry, and top billing among equine specialists.
Chris’ mantra “Training Before Schooling” is the missing-link motto of his popular TRAIN THE TRAINER program, now in its ninth year in North America, with host centers in Alberta and Ontario, and its fourth year in Europe, hosted in Arnhem, The Netherlands. Over 150 certified trainers throughout world – Canada, the United States, Bermuda, Mexico, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, England and South Africa – are walking the talk of an efficacy unseen in the world of horse training..
This innovative program addresses the number one gap in the horse industry: standards of competency in horse training. Focusing on the assertive yet non-threatening techniques Chris has designed to effectively communicate with all horses – be they drafts or minis, donkeys or mules, quarter horses or Thoroughbreds – both on the ground and under saddle, Chris teaches his students to correctly read (diagnose) all variety of horses at a level of cause rather than symptom, technically and skillfully work with the horse to dissolve and resolve its issues, and learn to coach others into achieving these same lasting results.
The curriculum requires trainers-in-training to develop skillsets in diagnostics, groundwork and equitation with horses of a variety of breeds, genders and temperaments. Click here for 2011 curriculum Trainers are encouraged to bring a horse of their own to these clinics, but may also be asked to do some work with a horse they have not previously met. Trainers who are not able to bring their own horse should contact the facility to discuss the possibility of leasing a horse for the clinic or can post their need for a horse to work with at the clinic on the Discover Your Horsepower Forum
Chris has selected high-quality equestrian centres to host his Train The Trainer events – Riversong Ranch in Alberta, Canada, Blue Heron Stables in Minesing, Ontario and Stal Mansour, Arnhem, The Netherlands. Please see Events for schedule. All facilities were chosen for their well-presented infrastructure and service, amenities and ease of access from major airports and highways. All have spacious indoor arenas for year-round comfort, ample trailer and spectator parking, outdoor rings, indoor washrooms and indoor and outdoor stabling. Comfortable lodging is available within 5 – 20 minutes drive from each location. Click here for more information on the Training Centres.
For individuals looking for the more traditional clinic format in which they work exclusively with their own horse to resolve specific issues – both on the ground and under saddle, Chris’ weekend horsemanship clinics and private and semi-private sessions are designed for just this purpose.
